HAM-71-15.78, Pfeiffer Road Interchange Design Cincinnati, Ohio
National Engineering & Architectural Services Inc. (NEAS Inc.) was retained to provide geotechnical services including reconnaissance, testing and exploration reporting as well as roadway design and survey for right-of-way determination (40 parcels). The scope of the project is to add an auxiliary lane to I-71, beginning at the northbound entrance ramp from Pfeiffer Road and ending at the eastbound exit lane of the I-275 interchange, at a point just south of the Deerfield Road overpass. To accommodate the widening, the existing noise wall will be relocated as well as extending overhead trusses for interstate signage and Artimis display.
A total of nineteen soil borings were performed by our drilling crew, using all terrain equipment. Sampling efforts included SPT, Undisturbed soil sampling and rock coring. Collected samples were evaluated in our soils laboratory to provide classification and strength parameters for design. Our final analysis included recommendations for pavement design, embankment design and foundation support and earth pressure analysis for the new noisewall and retaining structure.
