Jackson County Garage Sewer Replacement Jackson County, Ohio

Project Owner/Client: Ohio Department of Transportation District 9

National Engineering & Architectural Services Inc. (NEAS Inc.) was retained to provide  geotechnical services supporting replacement of the existing on-site package treatment system at ODOT’s District 9 Jackson County garage facility with a new piped sewer system connecting to the existing City of Wellston sewer main. A subsurface investigation was required to accurately design a sewer system within the existing right-of-way limits and to describe the existing soil conditions for potential trenchless technologies that may be used for construction. NEAS Inc. completed the surveying, geotechnical engineering and construction plans for the new system design.

The geotechnical subsurface investigation was completed per SGE specification section 303.6. Due to shallow boring depths and the proposed method of installation, standard penetration testing was completed at 2.5 intervals. The soil boring logs, classifications, moisture content values and soil descriptions were provided as MicroStation plan sheets.

The original scope indicated that the client wanted a force main sanitary sewer system. However, we were able to provide a more cost effective construction design of a gravity sewer system. This design saved the client $125,000 in construction costs.
