The Louisville Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges Project Section 1 The Kennedy Interchange Reconstruction Louisville, Kentucky

Project Owner: KYTC / INDOT / FHWA
Client: Qk4

Section 1 involved the relocation and reconstruction of the Kennedy Interchange (i.e., the confluence of I-65, I-71 and I-64) south of its present location in Louisville, Kentucky. Though it was decided to complete this project as a design-build, National Engineering & Architectural Services Inc. (NEAS Inc.) completed the geotechnical portion of the contract.

NEAS Inc.’s involvement in the project included supervision of the field drilling operations, laboratory analyses of soil and rock specimens and providing the subsurface engineering analyses and recommendations for 30 structures included in the project. Our efforts included load bearing analyses for bridge pile foundations, bearing capacity and earth pressure analyses for retaining walls as well as settlement analyses for embankments. NEAS Inc. also performed Phase II environmental site assessments for 21 commercial and industrial sites affected by the project.
