Concrete Testing Technician

Columbus, Ohio

National Engineering & Architectural Services, Inc. (NEAS), a full-service Geotechnical Engineering, Materials Testing, Construction Inspection, Geotechnical Drilling, and Surveying Firm is seeking individuals with construction inspection experience, particularly in the inspection of rigid and flexible pavements.

As a full-time Concrete Testing Technician, you will play a key role in supporting our projects by performing a variety of tests for our clients including concrete inspection, compaction testing, and lab testing.

 

Requirements include:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Computer proficiency

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and reports

  • Ability to perform analytical calculations

 

Preferred Qualifications include:

  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Certification - Grade I

  • ODOT Prequalified Soil & Aggregate Inspector

  • NICET Construction Material Testing - Level I

  • NETTCP Soils & Aggregate Inspector Certification

  • ODOT Compaction Testing Prequalification


Must be able to perform a range of physical activities, including sustained walking, bending, twisting, standing and reaching, and perform medium to heavy work including occasionally lifting over 30 pounds and exerting up to 30 pounds of force.

Top pay is commensurate with experience and active certifications.

A company vehicle will be provided for all project related work/travel.

Job duties:
Manages complex projects by generating and/or reviewing detailed drawings using CADD drafting equipment and engineering principles; prepares required reports relative to assigned projects and plans; prepares cost estimates; confers with supervisors or high-level engineers regarding unusual and complex problems or to obtain approval on plans; conducts field reconnaissance; identifies site issues and develops field drilling plans for conducting surface and subsurface geotechnical exploration to obtain necessary information for planning, designing, and construction of project in accord with the requirement of ODOT Specifications for Geotechnical Exploration (ODOT SGE); reports noted field safety issues to management; conducts laboratory testing of the collected rock and soil samples; applies engineering principles and communicates complex engineering issues and concepts to technical and nontechnical clients and project teams; performs data analysis using spreadsheets and geotechnical software such as gINT, GB1, Slide, GRLWEAP, Driven, shaft, LPile, ABAQUS etc. to assist in the preparation of reports; develops soil profiles utilizing CADD software such as Bentley ORD or AutoCAD and familiarizes with various CADD standards; gains familiarity with design specifications such as AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specification, ODOT Bridge Design Specification, ODOT Geotechnical Design Specification, ODOT Location and Design Specifications, as well as ODOT Construction and Material Specification; prepares data and design reports, assesses feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering designs; conduct pertinent engineering analysis that apply to roadway embankments, roadway pavements, bridges, retaining walls, geohazards and other miscellaneous structures.

Must have a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering. Must have three (3) months of experience in the job offered or as a Research Assistant.


Three (3) months of experience (inclusive of experience required heretofore) must have included the following:

  • Using AutoCAD and Bentley ORD for plans development;

  • Performing lab testing on soil samples; and

  • Preparing project reports and analyzing data.
